further calls / figures / moves
form the environments of standard mainstream

Corresponding to the CALLERLAB standardization the following calls / figures do not (or: no longer) belong to the students program of Mainstream, and thence are encountered rather scarcely. But sometimes they might pop up (again), e.g. within workshops. By its very nature those can result only in a fragmentary, though temporarily growing compilation. (A corresponding, much larger treasure trove, even so running over all levels, can be found e.g. at the Ceder webseite.)

As a note, esp. being addressed to students: Don't be afraid! These figures are not to be learned in addition. If at all you come accross them explicitely, right because of being non-standard, they then have to be introduced separately before.

Hi de ho  &  Hi de ho to a wave

facing dancers,
mini-wave
Especially at demos or specials experienced dancers like to replace the do sa do with this figure: Here likewise, if needed, the dancers step ahead slightly off set towards the left, resulting in right hip to right hip. Then the right hand will be placed loosely around the waist of the counterpart. After circling about 3/4, this connection will be released and the dancer will rotate on place into the same direction until they face again.

If endorsed with to a wave, then the circling would be a full turn (360°) instead, then changing the connection into the mini-wave handhold.

Notes: * In order to notify this non-rule-conform variant of "do sa do" to the counterpart, already at the first step up the pointer-finger of the left hand will be raised. It is up to the counterpart to accept or not.   * Sometimes this non-standard variant will be asked explicitely (e.g. "Do-sa-do with a Hi-de-ho").   * In contrast to a left do sa do a "left hi de ho" will not be used in general.

facing dancers (man and woman) The result of this figure would be the same as for touch 1/4, though it is restricted to different sexes. The part of the man is identical to that of star thru. The woman also turns underneath the common right-handed arch in the same direction as for "star thru", but here about 3/4 (270°) instead of 1/4 there. mini-wave

facing dancers (man and woman) This figure is closely related to box the gnat. In fact, it is an extra call for a "left-handed box the gnat":   Man and woman both step up, give left hands, and raise this handhold above their heads. Then the woman turns 1/2 (180°) to the right under this arch, while the man makes a left semi-circle around the woman. facing dancers in interchanged positions

static square Like in a grand square heads and sides will be distinguished (e.g. "heads face, ..."):
A) The addressed persons turn as told. Then they take
  1. 3 steps backward, turn a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  2. next take in that direction 3 steps forward, there do an additional pass thru, turn a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  3. take in that direction 3 steps forward again, do an additional "pass thru", turn once more a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  4. and take in that direction 3 steps backward. – Attention, in contrast to "grand square" there is no "reverse": Here likewise will be a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set (i.e. towards the momentary partner).
  5. Now the same sequence (except the final quarter turn) commences on the other side of the set: they first take 3 steps backward, turn a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  6. next take in that direction 3 steps forward, there do an additional pass thru, turn a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  7. take in that direction 3 steps forward again, do an additional "pass thru", turn once more a quarter (90°) towards the center of the set,
  8. and take in that direction 3 steps backward.
B) In the meantime the not-addressed dancers will perform items 3 to 6 two times in succession (on either side of the set).

Notes: * The additional "pass thru" thus will be applied whenever it is possible and corresponds to the momentary moving direction.   * Each combination of "pass thru" and subsequent quarter turn towards the center of the set is to be performed in the sense of a slide thru. But be aware: the directions of those turns (here: always towards the center) would agree only in case of having normal pairs within the starting static square!

Grand parade

static square Named dancers ("heads in", "sides in") step in and do a right arm turn to a momentary oceanwave in the center. Very centers (men) then do a left cast off 3/4 while the ends (ladies) fully finish their arm turn with the extend. The so far inactive ladies now veer right to become a couple with that man each, as the so far inactive men do a courtesy turn with the lady in front. All 8 finish that part with a couples promenade half way around. – Now the named men are at home as the other men are crossed. All ladies have proceeded one spot to the left.
Next, the same sequence applies once more, again starting with dancers in the same named positions. At this time all the men will be at home again, as ladies are all crossed now.
Finally the same sequence applies two more times, while starting these times with the other couples each.
